The 2016 completion of the Kuunchi Kakana (“Families Together”) Centre in the indigenous community of Lockhart
River in Cape York, Queensland,
marked a milestone in publicly funded
community infrastructure.
Being the first facility of its type externally designed and managed, the Qld Government heralded the opening of the Centre as a major project success.
The $2.5 Million facility was managed from inception to completion, and was built with community support and
assistance, including an impressive
level of indigenous employment, and materials sourced locally where available.
